Another week with Joe without any Grow....

12/10/18

Today we went to another doctor, another person added to Joe's care team. His regular doctor and his lactation specialist and the Neonatal nurse in on the loop all recommended we see one of the pediatric specialists and get a full work up.  That he got.

She had seen Joe his first week of life in the hospital & remembered that situation, so we at least didn't have to start from day 1. We discussed what had gone down hill since 3 months old & all the various things that had been tried & Joe's reactions to each.

12/3/18  11lb 7oz
12/5/18  11lbs 4oz

12/10/18   11lbs 7oz
12/7/18   11lbs 6.7oz

Joe was STILL at 11lbs 7oz. He didn't slip backward since Friday, but had had not gone forward either. This is the same pound and ounce he was at two Fridays ago at his 4 month check up, then he slipped back a bit of ounces by last Monday and two more than that last Wednesday.

Last Wednesday after he had lost MORE weight, I was in a bad spot. I had a Mommy Breakdown. I decided to pick myself up and try something else. I went and bought him solids. First we did veggies, peas and carrots. He gobbled them right down. Then we went to Oatmeal cereal mixed with his Amino Acid Formula for weight gain. This has been THE ONLY WAY we have gotten more than half an ounce in him. Except that one time we spent 45ish minutes with the lactation specialist all hands on boob shoving that SNS in as fast as he spit it back out. at the end of 45 minutes we got the 2 ounces in. That's the only time and without her it hasn't happened since. He will however take 1 ounce with cereal in it per sitting. We were told today to go ahead and push push push the solids but as long as they do not replace nursing. DONE.

Unfortunatley none of this explains weight loss and lack of gain. His retension at feedings remains consistant at 5ounces. He's upped the number of times he nurses and added solids with weight gain formula. It just doesn't add up.

To add to this, today on the pediatric scale, he was not as long as he was when we marked and measured at the other clinic. We had 3 diffrent people try 3 different times to be sure, as it really really mattered when you are facing "FAILURE TO THRIVE". He was NOT 24.75" but rather 23.5" putting him farther down on the growth scale & now in more than one area. This opened up for much more questionable issues to consider.

Today he had a catheter insurted to draw urine for a urinalysis to rule urinary tract infections, blood drawn from both arms (the first one didn't even give enough to reach the end of the tube between the butterfly needle and the syringe) and xrays to check heart and lungs. He let them ALL know how he felt about that. Then we went to the chiropractor to loosen up after.
